- ANSI Z87.1 / Z87+ (Civilian Standard): The primary US standard for occupational and educational personal eye protection. The “+” denotes high-mass and high-velocity impact resistance testing.
- MIL-PRF-32432A (Military Ballistic Standard): A far more rigorous US military specification. Lenses must withstand high-velocity steel projectiles fired at speeds exceeding 600–700 fps (feet per second).
- EN 166 (European Standard): Covers personal eye protection across Europe. Look for ratings like EN 166 F or EN 166 B for high-speed particle protection.

Note on Polarized Lenses: While polarized lenses are standard in fishing (to eliminate surface water glare), hunters use them cautiously. Polarization can distort depth perception or make LCD displays, illuminated reticles, and red-dot scope sights appear dark or washed out.
